We present a narrative with personnel involved doing business with relatives, how do they deal and how do they kept things straight? This is a written response of our burning query of managing a small business.
It took long time to understand that this is a job we are not allowed to discuss any family issues in workplace and these family issues should be discussed at home after work. All of us understand that the work is work and no place for other issues. Every week we have family meeting to discuss family business problems and it is conducted outside the home and the factory and associated with each other.
During this meeting we discuss what is right and what is wrong, feedback from customers, new suggestions, loss or gain clients and so on. We document this meeting and suggestions and next working day we get the ideas into our system and announce that for the all and start from there.
We never discuss family issues at work or business issues at home. When you get this thing right it is very easy to deal with it. And the decision will be voted for it from all the family members it is not personal decision. If someone come up with new decision we have to discuss it all of us and we have to agree or disagree with it with further justification why we agree or disagree with it.
It is true that I am leader inside that factory but it is my job where I have to control everything inside the factory which mean even if my brother does the baklava I have at the end to make sure it has been done in the way want it and I control the quality of product and people inside the factory.
We are 6 family members and my father who acts as a supervisor and provides us with new and good ideas. He is not able to work anymore because of his age, but still he always there and advises us to do different staff because he got long experience in this staff. And I have another worker from our side the family and young fellow who clean and does hygiene staff so the total are 9 people during normal season, however, in Ramadan which is high season there are around 10-11 worker at the factory.
This is because the catering orders are more and we got some friends they are involved with us in the business. And all of them share some of our profit and source of income.
